A kitchen design consultation is one of the most exciting first steps you can take toward a kitchen you’ll actually love. If you’ve never been through the process before, though, it’s completely natural to wonder what you’re walking into. We’ve helped homeowners across Phoenix, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Peoria, and North Phoenix through this process more times than we can count, and we want you to feel prepared and comfortable before we ever sit down together.
Start Thinking About What You Want (and What You Don’t)
Before your consultation, the most useful thing you can do is spend a little time gathering your thoughts. You don’t need a finished vision or a mood board. Even rough ideas help. Think about what frustrates you most about your current kitchen. Is it the lack of counter space? Outdated cabinets? A layout that makes cooking feel like an obstacle course? Jot those things down.
If you’ve been saving photos from magazines or pinning ideas online, bring those along. Visual references give us a head start on understanding your style, even when the words are hard to find. Our team has worked with every kind of homeowner, from those who walk in with a detailed wishlist to those who simply know they want something different but can’t quite articulate what that is. Either way, we can work with you.
What We Cover During the Consultation
Our free in-home consultations are a chance for us to see your space firsthand and for you to ask every question on your mind. We’ll look at the existing layout, talk through what’s working and what isn’t, and start exploring the design possibilities that make sense for your home and your budget.
Because we handle every phase of a project in-house, from demolition and design through plumbing, electrical, tile, and finishing, the consultation covers a lot of ground. We’re not just thinking about how the kitchen looks. We’re thinking about how everything connects and flows. That full-picture perspective is something we’ve been building since we opened our doors in 1994, and it shapes every conversation we have with a new client.
Here are a few things worth thinking through before we meet:
- How do you use your kitchen day to day? Do you cook frequently, entertain often, or both?
- Are there any practical needs, such as accessible features or aging-in-place considerations, that should factor into the design?
- Do you have a general sense of your budget range, even a loose one?
- Is there a timeline you’re working around?
You don’t need firm answers to any of these. They’re just good conversation starters that help us point you in the right direction faster.
Visiting Our Showroom Before or After
One thing that sets us apart from a lot of remodeling companies is our physical showroom in Glendale. If you’re in Scottsdale, North Phoenix, or anywhere else in the Greater Phoenix area and you’d like to see cabinet styles, tile options, and finishes in person before your consultation, we’d love to have you stop by. There’s a real difference between seeing a finish on a screen and holding a sample in your hand, and our showroom makes that possible.
Some clients visit the showroom first to get inspired, and others stop by after an in-home visit to finalize their selections. Either way works perfectly.
What Comes Next
After the consultation, we take everything we’ve discussed and put together a clear plan. As a licensed, bonded, and insured design-build contractor with an A+ rating from the BBB, we take the responsibility of managing your project seriously. Our goal is always to make the process feel manageable and even enjoyable, not stressful.
For homeowners in Phoenix, Peoria, Paradise Valley, and throughout the surrounding area, the kitchen design process starts with a single honest conversation. We’re a family-owned company, and we treat every project the way we’d want our own home treated. That hasn’t changed since the days when we operated as Gene & Son Tile Works, and it isn’t going to change now.
If you’re ready to take that first step, or even just curious about what’s possible, give us a call or drop us an email. We’re happy to answer questions and help you figure out where to start.
