Custom kitchen design is one of the most exciting and rewarding home improvement projects you can take on, but it can also feel a little overwhelming if you have never been through the process before. We want to take some of the mystery out of it. Whether you are dreaming of a full gut renovation or a thoughtful refresh, understanding how the design-build process works from start to finish helps you feel confident every step of the way.
The very first conversation we have with a homeowner is really about listening. During a free in-home consultation, we come to you and talk through what you love about your current kitchen, what frustrates you, how you actually use the space, and what your vision looks like. Some clients arrive with a clear picture and a folder full of inspiration photos. Others have a general feeling they want something brighter, more open, or more functional, and we help translate that feeling into a real design direction.
We work with homeowners throughout Scottsdale, Phoenix, Surprise, Paradise Valley, and surrounding areas, and no two kitchens are the same. A kitchen in a mid-century ranch home looks completely different from a modern open-concept build. That initial conversation gives us the context we need to design something that actually fits your home and your life.
Once we understand your goals, we move into the design phase. This is where layout, materials, cabinetry styles, countertop selections, tile choices, lighting, and fixtures all come together into a cohesive plan. As a design-build firm, we handle all of this under one roof, which means your designer and your construction team are in constant communication from day one. There is no hand-off between a design studio and a separate contractor, and no risk of something getting lost in translation.
Our showroom in Glendale is a big advantage here. You can come in, see real finishes, touch cabinet samples, and get a genuine feel for how materials look together. Custom kitchen design decisions are much easier to make in person than on a screen, and our team is right there to answer questions and offer guidance based on decades of experience in the trade.
During this phase, we also work through the practical side of things, including plumbing locations, electrical requirements, and any structural considerations. Thinking through these details early prevents surprises later and keeps the project on schedule.
Once the design is approved and materials are selected, the build begins. We manage every phase in-house, from demolition all the way through tile installation, cabinetry, countertops, plumbing, and electrical work. Having one team coordinate all of this makes a real difference. Scheduling stays tighter, communication is clearer, and any issues that come up are handled quickly without finger-pointing between subcontractors.
Our crews take care of your home throughout the process. We have been family-owned and operated since 1994 (many of you may remember us as Gene & Son Tile Works), and the values that have guided us from the beginning still show up in the way we treat people’s homes and the craftsmanship we bring to every project. Our clean record with the Arizona Registrar of Contractors, our A+ ratings with the BBB and Angie’s List, and our licensing, bonding, and insurance are all part of the accountability we hold ourselves to.
The final walkthrough is genuinely one of our favorite parts of the job. Seeing a homeowner’s reaction when they step into their finished kitchen for the first time never gets old. We go through every detail together to make sure everything meets your expectations, and we address anything that needs a second look before we consider the project complete.
We also build relationships that last well beyond the project itself. Many of our clients in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Surprise, Paradise Valley, and surrounding communities come back to us when they are ready to remodel a bathroom, update their cabinets, or take on another room in the home. That kind of trust means a great deal to us.
If you are thinking about a kitchen renovation this fall or just want to start exploring your options, we would love to hear from you. Give us a call or drop us an email and we can set up a free in-home consultation to talk through your ideas.
